This year’s Unite for Cities multi-citywide serve day was amazing! On Saturday, over 6,500 volunteers gathered to serve their cities, loving Anaheim (700), Brea (600), Buena Park (600), Fullerton (2700), La Habra (700), and Placentia (1200). There was an estimated 100+ churches, working alongside each of the cities’ local businesses, private and public schools, organizations, and students who joined the fun!

A huge part of this citywide movement is providing the opportunity for us to grow as disciples by getting out and showing people the love of Jesus. We believe we are changing how people think, both inside and outside the church.

OUR MISSION is to serve our local communities on a grand scale and help the church share the love of Jesus in word and deed. OUR VISION is to meet needs, demonstrate kindness and impact lives for Jesus. With His guidance, our many hands can do a mighty work. It is our prayer that He would use the Body of Christ to bring healing and light to our community where it is most needed.

Our service helps people see, know, and experience Jesus by…

  • Planting seeds. Paul said we are to plant and water seeds (1 Corinthians 3:6), but ultimately God is the one who does the harvesting work. There is great power unleashed as we plant seeds with the power of Christ’s kindness—this kindness leads others to repentance (Romans 2:4).
  • Answering questions. It’s only natural for people to ask, “So, why are you doing this?” As we serve, we simply answer the natural questions that come up. We don’t have to be experts to answer the typical questions people ask while we serve.
  • Loving them toward a relationship with Jesus. These “Show Love” projects are taking place to love our community into relationship with Jesus Christ. We can’t forget about the world that God so loved that He sent His Son, Jesus, to die for. With each act of love and generosity, we can make a difference. Good friends doing good deeds together creates good will and opens the door to receive the good news of our Savior.

This serve day is a catalyst to mobilize volunteers for the remaining 364 days of the year in their community. At OC United we are inviting people to make a difference all year long in the areas of Foster/Adoptive Care, Homelessness, Under-Resourced Neighborhoods, Domestic Abuse, and empowering neighborhood connectors to love and know those who live next to them.
